GENERAL INFORMATION
Course Description & Objectives
Designed for endocrinologists and interested internists and surgeons, the 15th Mayo
Clinic Endocrine Course will offer the latest material on the diagnosis and treatment
of endocrine disorders. Faculty are selected from Mayo Clinic for their expertise,
knowledge and clinical acumen. This 4 ½ day course will span the full spectrum of
endocrinology through lectures, debates, clinicopathologic sessions, “clinical pearls”
sessions, panel discussions, and roundtable discussions with experts. There will be
plenty of opportunities for interaction with the course faculty.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
• Summarize the optimal management of thyroid cancers including the role of
surgery, radioiodine and tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
• Manage the patient with thyroid dysfunction in special circumstances such as
pregnancy, infertility and adverse drug effect.
• Evaluate strategies to optimize bone health in menopause, aging and in patients
with cancer.
• Discuss current recommendations for optimizing health and sexual function in
postmenopausal women.
• Summarize the approach to the patient with hypoglycemia due to insulinoma and
post bariatric surgery.
• Critique current approaches to prevention and management of diabetes mellitus.
• Describe the endocrinologist’s role in addressing obesity at the national, local and
individual patient level.
• Describe the peri-operative management of the patient with endocrine disease.
• Summarize approaches to shared decision-making and improving adherence in
the endocrine patient.
• Examine the use of MRI, ultrasound and interventional radiology in patients with
endocrine disorders.
Intended Audience
This course is intended for endocrinologists, endocrine surgeons, and general
internists with an interest in endocrine disorders.
Course Language
All course sessions will be presented in English.

Syllabus
The 15th Mayo Clinic Endocrine Course will feature an electronic syllabus that may be
downloaded from the course website approximately two weeks before the start of
the course and also distributed to each attendee by USB flash drive at registration.
LODGING ACCOMODATIONS
Rooms have been reserved for course participants and guests very close to the
convention center. Located in the Paseo Marítimo are the Gran Meliá Victoria Hotel,
Meliá Palas Atenea Hotel (200 meters away), and Tryp Bellver (1.5 km away). To
ensure accommodations at this special group rate, make your reservation before
March 1, 2012. The Gran Meliá Victoria Hotel, the Meliá Palas Atenea Hotel, and the
Tryp Bellver Hotel will, at their sole discretion, continue to accept reservations after
this cut-off date on a space available basis at the group rates.

Rates are per double room with single occupancy. The room rate includes breakfast
buffet and VAT (tax). Check-in time begins at 3:00 p.m. Check-out time is 12:00 noon.
